Seasonal Spring produce

We love to eat seasonally and locally. Food that is seasonal is fresh as well as more plentiful. By eating what is available locally you support local farmers and importantly reduce food miles. Here is a list of some beautiful seasonal spring produce that are particularly at their peak through Spring.
Seasonal Spring produce
fruit
Fruits of the season include avocado, banana, berries including strawberry and blueberries. Citrus such as grapefruit, lemon, limes, mandarin and oranges. Plus other fruits such as kiwifruit, mango, rhubarb and passionfruit depending on your location.
vegetables
Green is the color of spring and there is certainly a plethora of greens appearing in Spring. Artichokes, asparagus, broad beans. Leafy greens including silver beet and spinach are particularly vibrant and fresh in Spring, they are also easy to grow at home in a small area or pot.
Cruciferous vegetables in particular broccoli and cauliflower will be in good supply. Other vegetables at their best in Spring are capsicum, chillies, cucumber, fennel leek, lettuce, mushrooms, peas, snow peas, squash and zuchinni. Alliums such as spring onion, brown onion and leek and root vegetables including beetroot, carrots, parsnip and potatoes.

Mint, coriander, bay leaf, parsley, rosemary and sage are all abundant through Spring.
Growing seasonal Spring produce
Spring is a great time to try growing some of your own food. You don’t need a huge amount of space to get started. Herbs are great to have on hand to add healthy zing to your food.
