Massage works by soothing soft tissue, increasing oxygen flow in the blood, releasing toxins from the body and encouraging relaxation through physical and psychological healing for general wellbeing. Massage is especially effective in treating ‘viscous cycle’ complaints. For instance, a tension headache is often self-sustaining because the pain makes the sufferer clench the affected muscles.
Sports massage is appropriate for the active individual. This type of massage is applicable pre or post event to stimulate blood flow and circulation. It may be used for injury prevention or treatment. This service is utilized in our clinic by a number of professional athletes including AFL footballers, Olympic track and field athletes, professional golfers and amateur sportspeople of all levels. It is widely documented that the use of sports massage and soft tissue therapy is enormously beneficial in maintaining and improving athletic capabilities.
Remedial massage, also known as remedial therapy is a therapeutic treatment that focuses on the deeper layers of muscle tissue. It uses specialized techniques to release the chronic patterns of tension in the body, through slow strokes & pressure on the contracted areas, by either following or crossing over the muscle fibres, fascia & tendons. This therapy is used to address specific problems associated with chronic muscular pain, injury rehabilitation, sporting & occupational injuries, RSI, & physical or mental fatigue. Trigger Point Therapy & stretching techniques may also be utilized to create an improved range of motion through the joints.
A relaxation massage is often called a Swedish massage. It is a great way to unwind and relieve stress. Relaxation massage is a light but invigorating massage that warms the muscles and increases blood flow. Relaxation massage may be combined with aromatherapy oils as a remedy for stress.
